So
many people - youth included - mistakenly believe smoking is cool. Ads for
cigarettes are all over the place,on billboards, televisions and newspapers.
Although the cigarettes ads have a warning text about the dangers of smoking,
people continue to puff away.
Smoking
is now restricted and banned in public places such as malls, hospitals, and on
public transportation. Cigarettes ads are also banned from prime time
television and only allowed to advertise in midnight. Cigarette packs now have
‘scary’ pictures of the dangerousness of smoking, like the pictures of lung
cancer. All of the attempts above are intended to make smokers reduce
consumption of tobacco.
Everyone
knows that smoking has several disadvantages, like cancer, emphysema, and heart
disease that can shorten your life. But why people is still lighting the smoke?
Addiction is the answer.
People
start smoking for different reasons. As stated above, some think that smoking
is cool. Others start smoking because their family and friends smoke.
Statistics show that 9 out of 10 of tobacco users start smoking before they’re
18 years old and become addictive as they grow old. So it will be so much
easier to not start smoking at the first place.
Once
you start smoking, it’s hard to stop because tobacco contains of nicotine which
is highly addictive. Your body and mind will quickly become so used to the
nicotine that contains in the cigarettes. Smokers feel that normal, when in
fact it’s dangerous. For young people, smoking will affect the physical fitness
and endurance so young smokers will feel tired most of the times. Their skin
and teeth will also become darker.
Smoking
is hazardous. The only thing to help a person avoid the smoking problems is
staying smoke free. But it isn’t always easy when everyone around is smoking
and offering cigarettes. But you have to be brave and reject cigarettes when
offered. If you feel guilty for rejecting, just give them any reason like ‘I
don’t like it’ or ‘Sorry, but I want to stay fit for an upcoming sport
competition’.
If
you smoke and want to quit, there is a lot of information and support out
there, like the support group or do counseling with your parents or teacher.
The easiest way is to browse the Internet for information about how to
quit. But the most important is, stay away from the cigarettes. It may be hard at first, but don’t give up. Staying
smoke free will give you more benefit, like better energy, better performance,
better looks, more money, and more life to live!
