Jakarta has produced
more than 6000 tons of garbage every day. Unfortunately, most of the garbage
will end in the street, river, and sea since people are littering everywhere.
Littering will cause the environmental damage, like flood. So, people should be
educated that the cleanliness of the city is not only the garbage collector’s
responsibility, but also all of us.
Clean Up Jakarta Day
is one of the programs aiming to educate people about the importance of city
cleanliness. Through this program, people are expected to be more aware about
put the litter in the right place and recycling. In this annual program,
communities, schools, companies, and individual will participate together to
clean up the city.
The first Jakarta
Clean Up Day was held on November 10, 2013 with more than 1000 participants.
They cleaned up Jakarta together by picking up the trash, sorting recyclable
and non-recyclable trash. The result is, 6 tons of trash in Jakarta collected
within 2 hours. Jakarta Clean Up Day also provided counseling to communities
for not littering everywhere and the damage caused by it.
This year’s program will be held on October 19, 2014 from 7 am until
9 am in various locations in Jakarta. To participate in this program,
you could register as the volunteer by choosing where location you want to
clean. You could also suggest a new location that needed to be clean up.
By participating in
this program, you could help Jakarta become cleaner and learn how to recycle
trash. Happy cleaning!
